Former FC Annecy defender Axel Drouhin played his first full match for Royal Courtrai Sport less than three days after his transfer. The 26-year-old started in the home derby against Zulte Waregem on Sunday, a match lost in the dying moments.
Annecy, who play in France's Ligue 2, transferred Drouhin to Courtrai on Thursday evening. The Belgian club, bottom of the Jupiler League with four losses from four games and ten goals conceded, was in urgent need of reinforcements. The French defender's immediate integration highlights this urgency. Meanwhile, Annecy holds a strong second place in the standings with ten points, five behind leaders Saint-Étienne. The club's record is three wins, one draw, and one loss, having scored seven goals and conceded five.
Axel Drouhin was immediately named in the starting eleven by his new manager. He played the entire match, which ended in a particularly cruel defeat for Courtrai. This tough introduction does not detract from the speed of his immersion into the team. His physical and tactical adaptation was tested right from his arrival.
FC Annecy is showing promising form at the start of this Ligue 2 season. The team's recent run of results, available on our stats page, is WDLWW. This consistency places the club as a direct challenger for promotion. The defense, Drouhin's former department, has been fairly solid with only five goals conceded in five matches. The technical staff must now manage without one of their players, who has left for an adventure in Belgium. The squad composition for upcoming games can be checked on the squad page.
The team now prepares for its trip to Guingamp, scheduled for September 12, 2026. This away match against the 11th-placed side is an opportunity to stays on the podium. The upcoming fixtures schedule shows this is the next important challenge for the group. A win would maintain pressure on Saint-Étienne before the international break. The objective is clear: continue the positive momentum built since the start of the campaign.
FC Annecy's next official action will be this trip to the Stade du Roudourou to face En Avant Guingamp.
